F8f-1 Bearcat (American Eagle Models)

The cores that will make up the wing and tails of the F8f-1. I have always been partial to the -2, but the markings of the -1 units are more available.

That's a lot of wood for sheeting going to be needed.

No easy task to redo this vertical to be a -1

...but with dremel, bondo, west system and blown up 3 views, there I have it, to within 94% of scale.  The vertical airfoil is not accurate, but I think I can live with that.

Where the Brison 5.8 will call home.

The other scale point that is driving me batty, is the cowl shape, it should taper as you forward from the fuse, as well, it is not suppose to be round on the bottom, but I can live with this also, as they are really tough to pick up during static inspections, unless I run into another me.  :(

Top of the wing now glassed.

aebearcatMvc-002f.jpg (127747 bytes) bearcatAE1.jpg (129700 bytes)

Engine cowl flaps and the exhaust ramp have been cut out of the forward fuse. This will allow the hot air to exit through scale locations.

With all of the cutting of the fuse, a generous amount of glassing and carbon re enforcing is added.

9" from center line of the exit pipe to centerline of the opposite exit pipes.

This prototype weighs in at just under 3 lbs.  I should not have any nose weight issues.

Exit pipes are 6" long.

The collector is a standard Brison piece used for the 5.8, sawed,  filled, and 3/4" pipes added.  The opposing 3/4 pipe was added to test rpms exiting gases direct, and exiting through entire system, as well as a test or two doing both.  Awaiting engines to return from Brison for a heath check.

3W twin spark should be enough power to hold off any Axis aircraft that show up.

Just need the Nelson clear coat, a little more touch ups, and this baby goes out to terrorize the skies.

Unfortunately the Aeroloft transfers have a shelf life which was missed, and nomenclature and other small details from them will need to be replaced.
